چکیده

Cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) elastography noninvasively provides mechanics-based image contrast. The measurement of mechanical parameters is otherwise possible only by palpation or invasive pressure measurement. Measurement of parameters of myocardial shear stiffness is considered to be diagnostically beneficial especially in patients with diastolic dysfunction due to diffuse myocardial disease. Initial results of several single-center studies in animals, healthy volunteers, and patients suggest that cardiacMR elastography is capable of measuring shear stiffness-related diagnostic parameters. The following article shortly reviews the two main approaches used for cardiac MR elastography and outlines the results of the studies performed so far.

In-vivo waveguide cardiac magnetic resonance elastography

Background Myocardial stiffness (MS) is elevated in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFPEF)[1]. In addition, stiffness elevation in HFPEF exhibits directional dependency [2]. Conventional determinants of MS such as pressurevolume relationship and mechanical testing are invasive and hence clinically inefficient. Therefore, there is a need to non-invasively estimate anisotropic MS t...

Quantification of myocardial stiffness in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction porcine model using magnetic resonance elastography

Background Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is associated with a complex heterogeneous pathophysiology which is poorly understood thereby preventing appropriate diagnosis and prognosis. However, it is known that most of the cardiovascular and non-cardiac abnormalities that induce HFpEF are eventually manifested as an increase in left ventricular (LV) myocardial stiffness (...

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...

Cardiac MR Elastography: Comparison with left ventricular pressure measurement

PURPOSE OF STUDY To compare magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) with ventricular pressure changes in an animal model. METHODS Three pigs of different cardiac physiology (weight, 25 to 53 kg; heart rate, 61 to 93 bpm; left ventricular [LV] end-diastolic volume, 35 to 70 ml) were subjected to invasive LV pressure measurement by catheter and noninvasive cardiac MRE. Cardiac MRE was performed i...
